Great results of the winery in Sakura Women’s Wine Awards
The wine challenge “Sakura Women’s Wine Awards” is one of the most representative and relevant in Asia. It is characterized mainly by the jury that is composed by more than 200 professional women in the world of wine: winemakers, sommeliers, producers, importers and specialized journalists, who tasted thousands of wines from different countries of the world.
It is the second consecutive year that this competition brings good news for Bodegas Vicente Gandia. Japan is a very sensitive market to the wine medals so the awards obtained announce a major campaign for the winning wines:
Hoya de Cadenas Night Harvest, Hoya de Cadenas Cava Brut Rosé and El Miracle Cava Brut Rose awarded “Double Gold Medal” at Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Las Vegas.
Bodegas Vicente Gandia adds new recognitions to its long list of international awards. This time it has been in the “WINE TASTING AWARDS” organized by WSWA (Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America) during the celebration of the “WSWA 73rd ANNUAL CONVENTION & EXPOSITION” at the Caesar’s Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. This event is considered the most important in the US and gathers leading professionals of the American wine industry. Thanks to these awards, the winery will have good volumes in the United States this year.
Hoya de Cadenas Night Harvest, Hoya de Cadenas Cava Brut Rosé and El Miracle Cava Brut Rose have been the wines awarded with Double Gold Medal.
Hoya de Cadenas Night Harvest, is a white wine with Appellation of Origin Valencia whose grape varietals are: Moscatel, Viura, Chardonnay and Verdejo. It has an attractive combination of gold and green tones; in the nose shows intense aromas of exotic fruits. In addition, it has a delicious softness that fills the mouth with notes of citrus and honeyed flavors of apple.
Hoya de Cadenas Cava Brut, whose grape varieties are Macabeo and Chardonnay has a straw yellow color, fine and persistent bubbles. The aroma is clean and fruity, with a strong citrus character and with a background of floral notes. It offers a magnificent presence in the mouth thanks to the Chardonnay variety, dry and fruity at the same time.
El Miracle Cava Rosado, born from the combination of the best Requena grapes, grown with northern exposures, patience and stillness of aging in the cellar. It is 100% Grenache, it has a red currant color, bright, fine, persistent bubbles and elegant reflections. The aromas display ripe red fruit with a background of pastry and mocha with subtle citrus notes. Creamy texture, wide and persistent in the mouth.
In addition to this wonderful news, Nebla Verdejo Rueda was also awarded with Gold Medal.
Nebla Verdejo,A Night Harvest White wine with Appellation of Origin Rueda, whose grape varietal is 100% Verdejo. It has an attractive yellow color with greenish undertones. On the nose we find all the typical characteristics of the Verdejo: fennel, freshly cut hay and tropical fruits (pineapple and mango). The palate is unctuous with a great fruity finish and a refreshing acidity
The WSWA completed the list with silver medal for the wines: Ostras Pedrin, Uva Pirata, Dolmo, Boabrisa and Bo “Bobal Único”
For many years, Vicente Gandía had been experimenting with the Bobal variety to come up with modern wines of high quality. In the beginning, the results were not particularly encouraging, and they had to reject entire runs that did not come up to standard. But then we learned that by pruning the young vines to reduce the grape yield per vine, pinching from old vines and selecting the best grapes, we were able to obtain excellent results. The secret lay in selecting only the best grapes from the best vines.
The Bobal vines are big leaf and medium and dark grapes. Their maturity is late and produce very good wines with a very nice colour.
“Bo Bobal Unique” is a varietal wine made with 100% Bobal with apellation of origin Utiel- Requena and recommended with grilled fish, red meats and semi-cured cheeses.
This is a modern, elegant wine, with intense color and fruit and rich cherry tones from its high acidity. In the nose it presents a range of wild fruit and toasted oak aroma. In the mouth the tannins are meaty and flavoursome, with a perfect blend between hints of fresh fruit and toasting notes, with a smooth, balanced, characterfull finish.
Vinification of the Bobal variety takes place in stainless steel tanks, maintained at 28ºC and macerated for 15 days with the skin. Then wine is subsequently aged for 9 months in French Allier médium-toasted oak casks.
This wine of Bodegas Vicente Gandía has been awarded many times Gold Medal in: Berliner Wein Trophy (Germany) and Asia Wine Trophy. Also, 90 points in Premium Select Wine Chalenge (Germany) and “La Semana Vitivinícola” (Spain).
Ostras Pedrin and Uva Pirata are the first two wines of the new winemaking project by Vicente Gandia.
At the headquarter’s of the Valencia Regulatory Council of the Appellation of Origin has taken place the presentation of the new oenological venture of Vicente Gandia, Peculiar Wines. Each wine that makes up this range is mentored by a winemaker of the winery who have been commissioned to carry out that project he/she had always dreamed of performing. Oenological creativity at its finest that offers micro-elaborations that recovers areas and peculiar varieties. A wine experience with a story behind each wine and has envolved with a packaging design that leaves no one indifferent..
The two first Peculiar Wines are the ones that have been presented in Valencia: Ostras Pedrin by Luis Garcia Severino and Uva Pirata made by Fernando Freire. Both wines are under the Appellation of Origin Valencia.
Ostras Pedrín eis the personal adventure of our winemaker Luis Garcia Severino who has rediscovered the Alto Turia, a 1,100 m high region where he has found a treasure in the variety Verdosilla. A signature white wine that shows a bright straw yellow color. The nose displays aroma of pear, melon and syrup. The palate is friendly, sweet, elegant, lively, fruity and with a long finish. A perfect accompaniment to shellfish, fish, white meat, poultry, rice and cheese. The label has been designed by the Pixelarte group and is inspired by comics of the ’50s.
PFor the next wine creation, our winemaker Fernando Freire has deployed his most pirate side, sailing the wine seas to “hijack” the French Petit Verdot grape which has given rise to Uva Pirata. A signature red wine with cherry red color and violet tones. The palate is fruity, elegant, spicy, mineral, full-bodied, balanced with a long finish. The nose gives off an aroma of red fruits, berries, caramel, vanilla and mocha. An ideal companion to a good steak, cured cheese (such as Stilton) or game meat. The Uva Pirata artwork has been made by the Valencian artist Coté Escrivà inspired by an urban, scoundrel and pirate environment.
Peculiar Wines will expand its range in the future with more wines developed by the rest of the winemaking team of Vicente Gandia.

Bodegas Vicente Gandía attracts the UEC (Spanish Union of Sommeliers) and was awarded with the “Baco de Oro”.
UEC (Spanish Union of Sommeliers) carried out their most important competition of young wines in Spain. This competition in which there are no restrictions, accept all kinds of wines (white, red, sweet or rosé wines). More than 60 professionals (journalists, sommeliers, oenologists and directors) get together for a blind tasting of all of the wines that are registered. Only one restriction: Harvest 2015.
The albariño wine “Con un Par” has been awarded with a “Baco de Oro”. We recommend with salads, white meat and small game. An ideal wine for sharing with a couple of friends over a couple of lobsters. Con un Par, an exceptional Albariño wine.
Straw- colored yellow with green reflections, clean and very bright. With aromas of tangerine, orange blossom, fresh pastry, pear and white peaches. A deliciously zesty and punchy wine. Pears, melon and citrus fruits are all evident in the front to mid palate. The palate is two- fold experience: characters of Italian pinot grigio pedigree with weight and texture and then the back palate is all racy and Riesling-like with wonderful acidity.
